Maeyanang Cruise
The unique heritage of the Chaophraya River comes alive on a Maeyanang Cruise. The special river excursion were launched on 1 December by Khuntao Thongsan Co., Ltd.
Built at a cost Bt 13 million, the luxury river cruiser took one year to complete. The name "Maeyanang" originates from a traditional spiritual Thai female figure worshipped and respected as the spiritual guardian of cruise itself.
It original shape and timbers came from a 60 years old rice barge hewn from stout golden teak. On this strong base, using the same precious timber, craftsman created the Maeyanang Cruise. Much of their work required skilled hands carving to bring to life traditional Thai culture in the woodwork.
The hull is 15.90 meters long, 5.60 meters wide and 1.40 meters deep with 33.03 tons gross and 22.46 tons net weight. The interior focuses on 60 wood-carved Naga decorations. What makes the cruise truly different from modern boats is the design. From the many pieces of hand-sculpted Thai art, especially the legendary Naga, to the skillfully branded gold plates on the ceiling, the Maeyanang is so rich in Thai heritage and demonstrates that traditional crafts are still alive.
